- OnePlus is currently making an entry-level phone with a codename codenamed Clover.
- The phone will reportedly be running Snapdragon 460 and have a large battery.
- Rumors say the phone is likely to be priced in the region of $185.
OnePlus is now not only targeting the middle-range smartphone segment any longer. Rumours say that it’s going even lower on the price scale with a newer entry-level smartphone with a codename of “Clover.”
According to an “insider” the launch of the new mid-range OnePlus Clover is due anytime. The new phone is reported to be powered by the Snapdragon 460 chipset and the phone will have a powerful battery.
One interesting point is that the OnePlus Clover is rumoured to have a 6.52-inch 720p IPS LCD display. It is likely that this is a 60Hz panel as its the maximum possible refresh rate the Snapdragon 460 is able to push. The refresh rate of the panel is at FHD+ resolution and this means it’s possible the Snapdragon 460 can likely support a higher refresh rate for the 720p screens. Based on this, we hope OnePlus won't go back on its promise of 90Hz displays for all it's future phones.
So what else could the OnePlus Clover phone offer?
In terms of the camera, the new OnePlus phone is rumored to feature triple shooters on the back. The cameras are said to be one 13MP primary camera and then two 2MP lenses. In terms of memory and storage there is 4GB of RAM thats paired with 64GB of internal storage. Clover will also have a microSD slot to expand storage, in addition to a rear fingerprint sensor, and also a 3.5mm headphone jack. One real highlight of the Clover would be its huge 6,000mAh battery with 18W power. Rumoured claims say the phone might potentially last two days on one charge.
In terms of cost, the Clover is positioned around $185 to $200 and that price will make it the cheapest OnePlus phone. Unlike OnePlus Nord, the Clover is to also launch in the US. OnPlus is clearly diverging from its original strategy of creating “Never Settle” flagship phones and entering a space that’s already dominated by players such as Xiaomi. It will be interesting to watch where OnePlus goes after Clover and if it can upturn the budget phone market just like it did with the flagship space when it first launched.
