So it appears as if Apple has decided to sell the upcoming iPhone 12 model minus a few accessories like a power adapter and wired EarPods. This news is according to firm TrendForce, agreeing with a recent set of rumours making the rounds.
TrendForce suggests the iPhone 12 models will be more expensive for Apple to produce with this due to 5G capability. Taking out the accessories from the phone package is one way that Apple reduces the cost. Apple will instead bring out a new 20W fast charger for the new phones and this will be sold separately, according to Ming-Chi Kuo a well respected analyst. Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the iPhone 12 range will have a roughly similar price to the iPhone 11 range,. The iPhone 11 prices start at $699, with the iPhone 11 Pro starting at $999, and with the iPhone 11 Pro Max starting at $1,099 in the US.
Apple is likely give the environmental benefits of selling the iPhone 12 models minus a charger or EarPods. Removing the items would result in smaller packaging, less waste, and less emissions from manufacturing and transport. From the Apple business perspective, removing the items would also likely increase AirPods sales.
Apparently Apple is still planning to include a lighting USB-C cable in the box with the new iPhone 12s though. This update comes curtesy of Blayne Curtis from Barclays. While new iPhones usually begin shipping in late September, Apple recently indicated that supply will be available slightly later than normal this year. According to leaks expert Jon Prosser, Apple will introduce a new Apple Watch and also iPad models in a press release in September, followed by new iPhones at an online event.
